Double Dose of Greed

Documentary: Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005).  This documentary chronicles one of the most chilling business scandals in history.  Based on the best-selling book “The Smartest Guys in the Room” by Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind; and featuring insider accounts and incendiary corporate audio and videotapes, this tale of greed, hubris and betrayal reveals the outrageous personal excesses of Enron leaders and the moral vacuum that led CEO Ken Lay – along with other players including accounting firm Arthur Andersen, Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Skilling, and Chief Financial Officer Andy Fastow – to manipulate securities trading, bluff the balance sheets, and deceive investors.  Greed personified!

Movie: Rogue Trader (1999).  This movie tells the true story of Nick Leeson, a Barings Bank Employee, who becomes one of the bank’s key traders while working in Singapore as General Manager of the trading floor on the SIMEX exchange.  Unfortunately, everything is not as it appears as Nick hides huge losses  as he gambles away the bank’s money.  Starring Ewan McGregor.
