A SavvyInterview – Caregiving Expert Amy Goyer

As someone who recently lost a father to Alzheimer’s and participated in his care over the last two years, I was pleased to have the opportunity to arrange an interview with Amy Goyer who is an Aging, Home & Family expert. As an expert in aging and families, specializing in family caregiving and multigenerational issues, Amy is a consultant, speaker, writer and AARP Home & Family Expert. She is the primary caregiver for her father in Arizona.

  1. My parents have become “part-time” caregivers the past few months as the health of my grandparents has gone south. I can see the stress and difficulty of taking on the responsibility of being a caregiver.

    • Caring for a parent or grandparent can absolutely turn a family’s life upside down. Unfortunately, we are only at the leading edge of what will be a tsunami with respect to managing healthcare. Most families and our system are probably not ready for the wave of aging Baby Boomers. The sheer number of Boomers and the fact that we are living longer – increasing the chances that diseases like Alzheimers will be diagnosed within more families – will present a number of challenges.
